Spain operates a family of legendary tourist trains. Here is how the three best known compare, so you can find the journey that fits.

El Transcantábrico (north)

Luxury along the green Cantabrian coast, San Sebastián to Santiago. The Gran Lujo is the top tier (8 days, large suites); the Costa Verde Express offers shorter, more accessible journeys (it replaced the former 'classic' Transcantábrico). Best for: coastal scenery, gastronomy, cooler weather.

Al Ándalus (south)

A grand, palatial train through Andalusia — Seville, Córdoba, Granada, Ronda. Best for: Moorish monuments, a larger and more opulent train, southern sunshine.

Expreso de La Robla (north, value)

The most affordable of the group, running the historic La Robla line across the north (Bilbao toward León/Galicia). Best for: travellers who want the romance of a northern rail journey at an accessible price.
