El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo operates from roughly May to October. The northern coast is green precisely because it sees more rain than southern Spain — so the season matters. Here is a month-by-month guide.
May & June
Late spring is glorious: hillsides at their greenest, wildflowers, long days and comfortable temperatures (often 18–24°C). Crowds at the excursions are lighter. An excellent, slightly cooler choice.
July & August
Peak summer. Warmest and busiest, with vibrant coastal towns and festivals. The Atlantic keeps the north cooler than southern Spain, making it a welcome escape from the heat. Book early — these departures fill fastest.
September
Many regulars' favourite month. Warm seas, the harvest season for food and wine, golden light and thinner crowds. Highly recommended.
October
Early autumn brings dramatic skies, turning leaves and a quieter, more contemplative coast. Pack a layer for cooler evenings. Beautiful and atmospheric.
Our tip: for the best balance of weather, light and gastronomy, aim for late May–June or September. As the official source, we can tell you which 2026 departures still have suites available.
