Two facts define evenings on El Transcantábrico, and both surprise new guests. First: the train parks in a station every night — you will never be rocked (or jolted) in your sleep. Second: the liveliest room on the train only really wakes up after dinner.

The lounge cars

The original 1923 Pullman lounge cars are the train's drawing rooms — armchairs, big windows, coffee and conversation, afternoon reading while the coast slides past.

The pub car

After dinner, the pub car takes over: an open bar, and live music or entertainment most nights. Some evenings it is a quiet nightcap; others end considerably later than anyone planned. With only ~28 guests aboard, by mid-week the room feels like a house party among friends — solo travellers consistently tell us it is where the trip changes for them (more in our solo travel guide).

Nights in port

Because the train sleeps in stations, you can usually step out for an evening stroll through the town — one more way the journey stays connected to the places it visits, as our day-in-the-life journal describes.

Drinks in the pub car are included, like nearly everything else — see what's included, or check live departure dates with us, the authorized booking source.
