Guests often ask us to describe an 'ordinary' day on board. There is no such thing — but here is a faithful journal of a typical one, drawn from what our travellers tell us and what we have lived ourselves.
08:30 — Breakfast in motion
The train has spent the night parked in a quiet station; now it eases along the coast while you take breakfast in the dining car — fresh pastries, Cantabrian anchovies if you dare, made-to-order eggs.
10:30 — The morning excursion
The deluxe coach that shadows the train all week meets you on the platform. A local guide leads the day's visit — a medieval town, a museum, a stretch of the Green Spain route.
14:00 — Lunch, the long Spanish way
Lunch is often the day's set-piece: a renowned regional restaurant, because in northern Spain food is the landscape.
17:00 — Rails and windows
Back aboard for the prettiest running of the day. This is the hour for the photographers — cliffs, estuaries, eucalyptus hills sliding past the suite window.
21:00 — Dinner and the pub car
Dinner on board or ashore, then live music in the pub car — see evenings on the rails. The train is already parked for the night; sleep comes easily.
